Do you know that in some parts of the world, people build temporary(暂时的)hotels made of snow and blocks(大块)of ice These are known as ice hotels
Unlike usual hotels, all the rooms in the ice hotels are made of ice In some ice hotels, even the glasses for drinks are made of ice blocks So they only serve cold drinks Also, hot food is not served in the ice hotels, but guests can eat hot food at places nearby

There are some places in the ice hotels that are heated, such as the bathrooms This is because, even though it is not as cold in the ice hotels as it is outdoors(在户外), indoor temperatures are still very low
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the ice hotels is that they are rebuilt every year They can be used only during the winter months The ice hotels melt(融化)away when spring arrives The ice blocks used to build these hotels are from nearby rivers So, when the ice hotels melt away, they melt back into the rivers

2Many people travel to different places in the world by air Usually it takes a long time, perhaps half a day, for passengers to stay in the plan So airlines(航空公司)offer passengers food But it is common that they feel bad about food taste Do you agree
To solve this problem, airlines try hard to improve their food They would like to do so because they don’t want to lose customers
However, according to scientific research, part of the reason why plane food tastes bad is that at high altitude(海拔)we can not taste things as well as we do on the ground Also scientists have found that our noses become very dry even before a plane takes off As the plane moves up, the change in air pressure(气压)reduces one third of the sensibility(感觉)of our taste buds(味蕾) So our tas te buds become senseless The sad face, however, is that our noses don’t know it
All of these help explain why food on the plane tastes so bad They also help explain why airlines choose to offer passengers salty and spicy(辛辣的)food Without doing so, the food would be tasteless
Now there are many researches on this According to one of them, some volunteers are asked to lie with their feet higher than their heads for weeks And scientists write down their feelings about food taste
Though scientists try their best, it is not as easy as they thought Because they can’t deal with the special environment successfully, such as the change in air pressure, making food taste good is still hard for them
61 In Paragraph 2, “this problem” means ______
A passengers stay long in the plane B food on the plane tastes bad
C passengers have no food to eat D food on the plane is expensive
62 What do airlines do to solve this problem
A Get more customers B Offer more food
C Improve their food D Reduce the ticket price
63 As the plane moves up, the change in air pressure reduces of the sensibility of our taste buds

64 Why do scientists feel it hard to made food on the plane taste good
A The volunteers don’t know about food taste
B The volunteers don’t understand them
C They can’t find enough volunteers
D They can’t deal with the special environment successfully
65 What is the best title of the passage
A Taste of Airplane Food B Airplane Travel
C Scientific Research on Noses D The Change in Air Pressure

To solve this problem, airlines try hard to improve their food这一句说到"improve their food",可以推测this problem是和food有联系的,可以排除A选项;根据原句前面一句But it is common that they feel bad about food tasteDo you agree可知是"食物很难吃",因此答案为B
To solve this problem, airlines try hard to improve their food可知,为了解决食物难吃这个问题,航空公司努力改善他们的食物,故选C
63B 细节理解题根据第三段句子 the change in air pressure(气压)reduces one third of the sensibility(感觉)of our taste buds(味蕾)可知,气压的变化减弱了我们三分之一的味觉故选B
Though scientists try their best,it is not as easy as they thoughtBecause they can't deal with the special environment successfully, such as the change in air pressure, making food taste good is still hard for them科学家认为要解决这个问题不容易的原因是他们无法成功地处理这种特殊的环境,比如气压的改变因此答案为D

D Most people want to have jobs
It has become more difficult in today’s world to find work for everyone
The economy of the world needs to grow by 4% each year just to keep the old number of jobs for the people
One machine can often do the work of forty people可知此题的正确答案为C。

Happiness is for everyone You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on Why Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too All these are your happiness If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you
Happiness is not the same as money It is a feeling of your heart When you are poor, you can also you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself So you cannot always say you are poor and poor and you have bad luck As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转的)door When it does, it also opens If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person

C You can still be a happy person even if you have little money
D Happiness is always around you though difficulties come towards you
5 Which of the following is this passage about
A Bad luck B Good luck C Happiness D Life
1 B。 Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely…
When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you
在阅读文章里我们也能找到关于这问题的叙述:when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you
4 A。 阅读文章里明确叙述:those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time阅读理解题的A项说,有车的人永远不愿在室外走,与文章所讲完全不同,因此是不对的。
5 C。 In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it 第三段的主题句是:Happiness is not the same as money
A couple from Miami, Bill and Simone Butler, spent sixty-six days in a life-raft(救生艇) in the seas of Central America after their boat sank
Twenty-one days after they left Panama in their boat, Simony, they met some whales(鲸鱼) “They started to hit the side of the boat,” said Bill, “and then suddenly we heard water” Two minutes later, the boat was sinking They jumped into the life-raft and watched the boat go under the water
For twenty days they had tins of food, biscuits, and bottles of water They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water — two things which saved their lives They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw(生的) Then the line broke “So we had no more fish until something very strange happened Some sharks(鲨鱼) came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface I caught them with my hands”
about twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them After fifty days at sea their life-raft was beginning to break up Then suddenly it was all over A fishing boat saw them and picked them up They couldn’t stand up
So the captain carried them onto his boat and took them to Costa Rica Their two months at sea was over
1 Bill and Simone were traveling _______ when they met some whales
A in a life-raft B in Miami
C in Simony D in Panama
2 The whales hit the side of the boat, and then _______
A they brought in a lot of water
B they broke the side of the boat
C they pulled the boat
D they went under the water
3 After their boat sank, the couple _______
A jumped into the life-raft
B heard water
C watched the boat go under water
D stayed in the life-raft
4 During their days at sea, _______ saved their lives
A tins of food and bottles of water
B a fishing-line and a machine
C whales and sharks
D Twenty passing ships
5 When they saw the fishing boat which later picked them up, _______
A they were too excited to stand up
B they couldn’t wait to climb onto the boat
C their life-raft was beginning to break up
D they knew their two months at sea would be over
1 C。在第二自然段的第1句就告诉我们they left Panama, Simony, they met some whales 说他们是在Simony 旅游时遇见Whales
2 B。 They started to hit the side of the boat,也就是说是the whales broke the side of the boat。
3 D。在他们的船沉没之后,the couple是一直待在船上直至获救的,而不是一直都在jumped into the life-raft。
4 B。 They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water-two things which saved their lives可知:a fishing-line 和 a machine救了他们的命。
5 D。 After fifty days at sea我们知道:the couple是太虚弱所以不能站起来,是由船长carried them onto his boat, 而救生艇早在出事后的50天就坏掉了,而不是获救当天坏的,所以A、B、C都可以排除,D项为正确选项。

Ding dong, ding dong," it goes every quarter of an hour 即可得知大钟每15分钟敲一次。
3选D,This clock has four faces So,no matter where you stand, you can read the time on the face of Big Ben其他三项均不符合题意。

adventurers
There have never been many adventurers You van read stories about men called adventures But they were really businessmen There was something they wanted----- a lady, or money, or a country, or honor And so they got it But a true adventure is different He starts without any special purpose He is ready for anything he may meet
There have been many half-adventurers And they were great men History is rich with their stories But each of them had a special purpose They were not followers of true adventure
In the big city of New York, Romance and Adventure are always waiting
As we walk along the street, they are watching us We look up suddenly and see a face in a window The face seems to interest us strangely Or in a quiet street, we hear a cry of fear and pain coming from a house where no one lives A car takes us to a strange door, instead of to our own The door opens and we are asked to enter At every corner, eyes look toward us, or hands are raised, or fingers point Adventure is offered
But few of us are ready to accept We are ready to do only the things we do every day We wish to do only the things that everyone else does We move on; and some day we come to the end of a long quiet life Then we begin to think Then, when it is too late, we are sorry that we have never known true Romance and Adventure
1 In the author’s opinion, there are ____ true adventures
A many B few C no D a few
2 In what way does the author say a true adventure is different from a business man
A He is ready for anything he may meet
B He is not interested in money
C He enjoys excitement while a business man does not
D A true adventure is romantic, while a businessman is dull
3 According to the passage, a cry of fear and pain coming from a house where no one lives in a quiet street means____
A a number B a fight C wealth D adventure
4 The passage doesn’t mention it, but we can infer from the passage that when most people meet an offer of adventure, they will ____
A grow angry but curious
B accept the offer
C grow embarrassed and reject the offer
D be frightened and cry for help
5 When do most people wish that they had known romance and adventure
A When they are young
B When it involves a beautiful lady or handsome man
C When something interests them strangely
D When they reach the end of a long quiet life
参考答案: B A D C D
the world
Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventures ----those who have climbed the highest mountains, traveled into unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans Now, however, there are people who look for an immediate excitement from a risky activity which may only last a few minutes or even seconds
I would consider bungee jumping to be a good example of such an activity You jump from a high place (perhaps a bridge or a hot-air balloon) 200 metres above the ground with an elastic (有弹性的) rope tied to your ankles You fall at up to 150 kilometres an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground It is said that about 2 million people around the world have now tried bungee jumping Other activities which most people would say are as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall building and diving into the sea from the top of high cliff(悬崖)
Why do people take part in such activities as these Some psychologists suggest that it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring Not very long ago, diseases could not easily be cured, and life was a continuous battle for survival(生存)
Nowadays, according to many people, life offers little excitement They live and work in comparatively safe conditions; they buy food in shops; and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill The answer for some of these people is to look for danger in activities such as bungee jumping
1 A best title for the text is ____
A Dangerous sports: what and why
B The boredom of modern life
C Bungee jumping: Is it really dangerous
D The need for excitement
2 More and more people today ____
A are trying activities such as bungee jumping
B are climbing the highest mountains
C are coming close to death in sports
D are looking for adventures such as traveling into unknown places
3 In bungee jumping, you ____
A jump as high as you can
B slide down a rope to the ground
C attach(系) yourself to a rope and fall to the ground
D fall towards the ground without a rope
4 People probably take part in dangerous sports nowadays because _____
A they have a lot of free time
B they can go to hospital if they are injured
C their life is short of excitement
D they no longer need to hunt for food
5 The writer of the text has a ____ attitude towards dangerous sports
A Positive(肯定的') B negative(否定的) C neutral(中立的) D nervous(紧张的)

A friend of mine was fond of drawing horse He drew the horses very well, but he always began the tail Now it is the Western rule to begin at the head of the horse, that is why I was surprised It struck me that it could not really make any difference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly(肚子) or the foot of the horse, if he really knows his business And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people's ruleThey make their own rules Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar(奇特的) to himself; and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy to work in that way
Now the very same thing is true to literature(文学) And the question, "How shall I begin" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else That is, you are not yet experienced(有经验的) enough to trust to your own powers When you become more experienced you will never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail --that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning

A very well
B in the way of western rule

Now satellites are helping to forecast(预报)the weather They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere(大气), because this is where the weather forms(形成) They send these pictures to the weather stations So meteorologists(气象学家)can see the weather of any part of the world From the pictures, the scientists can often say how the weather will change
Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures When they receive new pictures, the meteorologists compare(比较)them with earlier ones Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this
So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists Before satellites were invented, the scientists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours Now they can make good forecasts for three or five days Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead(提前)
