Readingis a comprehensive skill because it concerns the recognition of configuration, pronunciation, grammatical inflexion and the comprehension of words, sentences and paragraphs.(魏立明,孙长顺:2001 )由于有的单词往往有几种甚至几十种意思,而一个词的确切含义只有在具体的文章之中根据上下文才能确定。
People believe that both visual and non-visual information is involved in reading comprehension. As a matter of fact, it seems that the more non-visual information the reader possess, the less visual information is needed.(魏立明,孙长顺:2001 )。
Forming good reading habits can get twice the result with half the effort.
例如,读记叙文时我们要问5W,即为何(Why)、什么(What)、谁(Who)、何时(When)、何地(Where)、怎样(How)。
Robots are smart. With their computer brains, they help people work in dangerous places or do difficult jobs. Some robots do regular jobs. Bobby, the mail carrier, brings mail to a large office building in Washington, D.C. He is one of 250 mail carriers in the United States.
Mr. Leachim, who weighs two hundred pounds and is six feet tall, has some advantages as a teacher. One is that he does not forget details. He knows each child?s name, the parents? names and what each child knows and needs to know. In addition, he knows each child?s pets and hobbies. Mr. Leachim does not make mistakes. Each child goes and tells him his or her name, then dials an identification number. His computer brain puts the child?s voice and number together. He identifies the child with no mistakes. Then he starts the lesson.
Another advantage is that Mr. Leachim is flexible. If the children need more time to do their lessons they can move switches. In this way they can repeat Mr. Leachim?s lesson over and over again. When the children do a good job, he tells them something interesting about their hobbies. At the end of the lesson the children switch Mr. Leachim off.
1. The first paragraph of the passage tells us _____.
A. human beings are not as smart as robots
B. robots will take the place of man to rule the earth
C. we can only use robots to do some regular jobs
D. robots can help people in many different ways
2. Mr. Leachim?s _____ makes him a good teacher.
A. knowledge B. appearance
C. advantages D. energy
3. What is the most important thing Mr. Leachim can do in his lessons?
A. To meet the needs of each student.
B. To talk to the students in different languages.
C. To keep everyone?s interest in his lesson.
D. To introduce more hobbies to the children.
4. The word flexible in the last paragraph means _____.
A. not strict B. not hard
C. suitable D. changeable
5. Which of the following statements may be true according to the passage?
A. There are 250 robot teachers in the United States.
B. Mr. Leachim is run and controlled by electricity.
C. Bobby works in a large office building in Washington D.C.
D. The lessons taught by Mr. Leachim are given on a TV set.
With their computer brains, they help people work in dangerous places or do different jobs.
Mr. Leachim, who weighs two hundred pounds and is six feet tall, has some advantages as a teacher可知答案C正确。
3. A。 Another advantage is that Mr. Leachim is flexible可知他非常的灵活,可满足每个学生的要求,故答案选A

The future can be anything we want to make it!
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything that we can imagine, duanwenw.com just like a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. duanwenw.com If we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don't want it contaminated by the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all be concerned about the future because that is where we will spend the reminder of our lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The future is before us and dynamic. Everything we do will effect it.
Each day will brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in our businesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of the progress in every field of human endeavor.
We often hear people say, "Never give up.
"These can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in this will keep trying to reach his or her goal no matter how many times he or she has failed. In my opinion, it is important to be determined. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.
One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is common for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow mature. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make an effort. If we do not try again, the lessons we will have learnt will be wasted. Finally,duanwenw.com we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities.
In short, it is important that we do not give up when working towards our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better and more confident. Furthermore, if we give up, we will lose the chance of achieving our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.
If we did not know our age, some of us would appear to be very young, and some of us would seem very old.
Sometimes, people use age as a convenient excuse. ?I am too old to start something new,? or, ?I couldn?t learn that at my age.? Other people, though, go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in later years.
Take, for example, Colonel Harland Sanders who started franchising his chicken outlets when he was 65 years old, duanwenw.com Up to the age of 90 years old he traveled 250000 miles a year visiting Kfc franchises. He didn?t let age stand in his way!
Feeling lead to attitudes, attitudes become beliefs, and beliefs become the basis for actions.
It is not important how old you are;
It is how you feel, how you think, duanwenw.com
And what you do that is important.
To quote Satchel Paige, ?How old would you be if you didn?t know how old you was?

future
Scientists around the world have been studying the warming of waters in the Pacific Ocean known as El Nino. The appearance of El Nino is known to affect the weather around the world. Scientists still do not completely understand it. Yet they now find they can use it to tell about the future in different areas of the world.
One example is the work of two scientists at Columbia University in New York, Mark Cane and Gordon Eshel. A scientist of Zimbabwe, Roger Buckland worked with them. They have found that when El Nino appears, Zimbabwe has little or no rain. This means corn crops in Zimbabwe are poor. The last El Nino was in 1991 to 1993.That was when southeastern Africa suffered a serious lack of rain.
The scientists wrote about their recent work in the publication Nature. Their computer program can tell when an El Nino will develop up to a year before it does. They suggest that this could provide an effective early warning system for southern Africa, and could prevent many people from starving.
1.El Nino is known as ______ .
A.the changing of the weather in southern Africa
B.the warming of waters in the Pacific Ocean
C.the weather which brings drought(旱灾)to Africa
D.the weather phenomenon(现象)that brings heavy rains to Africa 2.Scientists study El Nino in order that ______ .
A.they can provide a kind of early warning to the place that will suffer from drought B.they can tell why Zimbabwe has little or no rain C.they can do some research work in this field.
D.they can put all this information into their computers. 3.Which of the following is true according to the article? A.Scientists come to understand how El Nino appears. B.Three scientists from the U.S.A. work on this subject.
